Sussex Tech 3, Polytech 0 Photo: Sussex Tech kicker Shawn Melvin
Placekicker Shawn Melvin's 30-yard field goal with less than four minutes left in the game gave Tech a 7-3 record. The Ravens were winless in 1999 and won just one game last year in head coach Bill Collick's first season. But working Collick's program, the Ravens surprised many this season with wins over Hodgson, Woodbridge and Cape Henlopen and a near upset of Caesar Rodney. Against Polytech, the Ravens fought off the challenge of the 2-8 Panthers with a late-game drive that started at their own 1-yard line on an interception by defensive back Chris Hopkins. During the drive, Jamie Tinley picked up one first down on a 10-yard reception from quarterback Marcus Morris and running back Morgan Schirmer picked up another with a 19-yard run to set the stage for Melvin's winning kick.
