Ravens Looking for
State Tourney Berth

The Sussex Tech High School boys' soccer team recorded its best record in the program's history last year.

And this year, besides improving on that 8-6-1 mark of a year ago, the Ravens hope to build on that momentum to earn the program's first state tournament berth.

The Ravens return five key players including goalkeeper Daniel Fitzgerald and midfielders Scott Preston and Roman Acosta. The graduation losses includ offensive leaders Alex Endlicher and Jay Kalisentra.

Following is a capsule preview of the Ravens' 2001 campaign.

Head Coach: Carlos Villa

2000 Record: 8-6-1

Key Returning Players: Scott Preston (midfield), Roman Acosta (midfield), Brian Griner (forward), Andrew Disabatino (back), Daniel Fitzgerald (goalkeeper)

Key Players Lost: Brian Elzey, Alex Endlicher, Jay Kalisentra

Key Newcomers: Andrew Betts (back), James Davis (forward), Chris Flood (midfield), Mauricio Porras (midfield), Tim Messick (forward).

Coach Villas' Comments: "Sussex Tech had its best won-loss record last year and we hope to break that record this year. We have a great level of dedication and commitment. This has translated into team unity and we hope to accomplish our goal of competing in the state tournament this year. Our midfield and goalie would be considered our strengths."
