Delmar 49, Indian River 14 For a brief moment, it appeared the Indian River High School football team would give the two-time defending state champions a run for their money. But after forging a 7-7 tie midway through the first quarter, the Indians succumbed to a 42-point barrage by the Wildcats as their three-game winning streak came to an end. Now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Henlopen Conference Southern Division, IR tied the game 7-7 on a 64-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Paul Macielag. That thrill was short-lived, however, as Delmar stormed to a 42-7 halftime lead. Indian River, held to just 86 yards of total offense including just 28 in the first half, scored its other touchdown on a 2-yard run by Akeem Wescott in the fourth quarter. Wescott's run capped an 80-yard drive. The win was Delmar's 30th straight and raised the Wildcats to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Division. The Indians travel to Laurel for a 7:30 p.m. Henlopen South contest on Friday, Oct. 25. Laurel is 2-1 in the South and 5-1 overall after beating Milford 14-0 on Friday, Oct. 18. 1998 8-2 won four in row 2 times 0-14 longest losing streak in school historyIR Index | Sports Index |
