The Indian River High School football team missed some opportunities in its season-opening loss a week ago. But it hardly had an opportunity against district rival Sussex Central.

In suffering their 12th straight loss going back to last season and their 14th straight going back to the 2000 season, the Indians were behind 35-0 with 10 minutes still left in the second quarter.

Even when Indian River scored its first touchdown in the second quarter on a 37-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Warner to end Paul Macielag, the Knights came right back with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by all-state end Andrew Weatherly.

Weatherly's kickoff return sent the Indians into the locker room behind, 56-7.

IR added its second score on a 5-yard run by Matt Higdon.

The Indians travels to Washington (Md.) on Friday, Sept. 20, for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference contest.
