Manlove, who took over the program just a week before the season began, has guided Laurel to its first trip to the Division II tournament since 1995. Against Lake Forest, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a pair of touchdown passes by quarterback Andy Hartstein. The first went for 9 yeards to end Jeff Downes and the second went to Mark Pugh for 6 yards. After a Lake Forest touchdown made it 14-6, Laurel went ahead 21-6 on a 7-yard run by fullback Chris Horsey, who finished with 131 yards on 26 carries. Lake Forest scored again to pull within 21-12, but the Bulldogs put the game away with a 7-yard touchdown run by DeVry Hill and a 20-yard pass from Hartstein to end Anton Ridley. Hartstein threw for 18 touchdowns to lead the state this season. He enters the state tournament with 8 touchdowns in his last two games. The Bulldogs had a big night on the ground as Jeremy Jones and DeVry Hill added 62 and 56 yards rushing, respectively. Laurel Index | Sports Index |
