Prepare for Dover |

Sussex Central 35, Cape Henlopen 0 Photos: Sussex Central head coach John Wells The Sussex Central High School football team, off to one of its best starts ever, prepared for yet another showdown with Dover for a potential Henlopen Conference Northern Division crown with the win over Cape Henlopen.
James' TD jaunt gave Central a 12-0 halftime lead. The Knights, as they have all season, continued to dominate the line of scrimmage. James finished with 103 yards rushing, while fullback Jamil Young rushed for 93 including 7- and 8-yard scoring runs on 16 carries. Halfback Terron Hall ran for 55 yards on 6 carries including a 5-yard TD run. Sussex Central also scored on a 17-yard field goal by Danny Milam and a 4-yard run by reserve quarterback John Riddle. The shutout was the second in a row and third of the season for Central's defense, which has allowed only 35 points for an average of 5.0 points a game this year. Central will host Dover in Sussex County Online's Game of the Week this week. The two teams have swapped the North title the past two seasons, with the Knights winning it in 2000 on the way to a state championship game appearance and Dover winning it last year on its way to the state title game. Both teams lost to Newark in the Division I finale. Central lost to Dover twice last year in Dover: 34-32 during the regular season and 19-6 in the state tournament semifinals. This year, Central is off to the same 7-0 start the 2000 team had. In addition, the Knights have shut out three opponents this season, equalling their total number of shutouts in 1999 when they started the season at 8-0. SCHS Index | Sports Index |
