Sends Jays to Loss |
Cape Henlopen 21, Seaford 19 Seaford High School football coach Shawn Larrimore has all the confidence in the world in placekicker Ryan Shockley. Just a week before in a win over Woodbridge, he lined Shockley up for a 45-yard attempt into the wind. So the Blue Jays had to feel pretty confident when Shockley lined up for a potential game-winning 38-yard attempt in the final minute of their first game back in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division. Even better, Shockley had the wind to his back this time. But no amount of wind can help if the other team blocks the kick, and that's exactly what Cape Henlopen's Stephen Shockley did to hand the Blue Jays the loss. Now 2-2 overall, the Blue Jays pulled within 21-19 with less than three minutes to go on a 62-yard scoring run by tailback Aaron White. After stopping Cape Henlopen on its next possession, Seaford drove to the Viking 21 to set up Shockley, who had kicked three field goals already this season. Seaford trailed 14-6 at halftime with quarterback Beau Moore scoring on a 1-yard run. White then scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter to pull the Blue Jays within 21-12. Despite the loss, the Blue Jays are still off to their best start since the 1998 season. Seaford visits Henlopen North power Sussex Central on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. Central is 5-0 following a 15-7 win over Sussex Tech in another Henlopen North game on Friday night.
