Fall to Polytech |
Polytech 14, Seaford 6 The short-handed Seaford High School football team, playing without 14 players including its leading offensive weapons, dropped its fourth straight game as Polytech won for the first time this year. The 14 players dismissed from the team by first-year head coach Shawn Larrimore included starting fullback Aaron White, who became the first player in the state to go over the 1,000-yard mark last season. The Blue Jays were also without starting quarterback Beau Moore and starting tight end and linebacker John Wheatley. The players said they would be trying to overturn their dismissals at a school board meeting on Monday, Oct. 28. With only 27 players dressing, the Blue Jays didn't score until midway throgh the fourth quarter when quarterback Danny Hamilton snuck over from the 1-yard line to pull Seaford within 7-6. Freshman running back Mike Ruehr, who ran five straight times on the touchdown drive, was stopped on the two-point conversion try to keep the Blue Jays down by one. Not only was the victory Polytech's first of the season, it also ended an 8-game losing streak for the Panthers. Seaford, now 0-4 in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division and 2-5 overall, hosts Dover on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Dover lost to Sussex Central 35-0 to fall to 1-1 in the North and 3-3 overall.
