Philly Power |

George Washington (Pa.) 14, Sussex Tech 7 Sussex Tech receiver Andre Johnson. The Sussex Tech High School football team had a chance against the Philadelphia Public League power but four turnovers eventually did it in.
Hudson didn't enter the game until the fourth period, when he teamed with wide receiver Andre Johnson on a 58-yard pass for the Ravens' only score. George Washington, under head coach Ron Cohen, has been one of the Public League's most storied programs. It has won the last two Public League championships and has put four players in the Big 33 All-Star Game between Pennsylvania and Ohio all-stars under Cohen. "We knew this would be a formidable task, but we just didn't make things happen" said Sussex Tech head coach Bill Collick. "We turned it over four times and you won't beat many people doing that. The kids will bounce back. The biggest disappointment to me is we just turned the ball over too much." Hudson was replaced for most of the game by Marcus Morris, who started at quarterback last year before switching to halfback with the arrival of Hudson, a transfer from Delmar. "Marcus did a nice job filling in for Brandon," said Sussex Tech head coach Bill Collick. "We'd like to have Marcus and Brandon on the field at the same time and that's been working fine, but we were concerned about Brandon's ankle and knee and getting him truly healthy." The Ravens weren't at all intimidated against the big city school and playing in Philadelphia. Collick said that even though his team is 1-2, the experience will only help it when it begins play in the rugged Henlopen Conference Northern Division in two weeks against rival Sussex Central. "I told the kids that we've got to schedule tough teams like this because the hill is only going to get steeper," said Collick. The hill will be steep enough on Friday, Sept. 27, when the Ravens visit a rejuvenated Laurel squad that has started the season at 2-0. Tech Index | Sports Index |
