The Woodbridge High School football team recovered from its season-opening loss two weeks ago to crush the visitors from Cecil County, Md., in a nonconference game.

Woodbridge running back Emilio PerryIn rising to 1-1 overall, the Blue Raiders were sparked by running back Emilio Perry's 97 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing on 15 carries.

In all, the Raiders piled up more than 300 yards rushing behind the offensive line of Patrick Quail, Brian Walker, G.L. Jefferson, John Parker, Mike Eastman, Cody Hartzell and Matt Short.

The line allowed four Raider running backs to go for more than 60 yards apiece. Besides Perry, Brandon Horsey rushed for 61 yards including a 25-yard touchdown, James Benson contributed 67 yards and a two-point conversion, and Victor Matos rushed for 72 yards including a 5-yard TD.

Perry scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to start a 21-point second period that helped the Raiders come back from a 7-0 first quarter deficit. Perry scored later on a 5-yard run.

Dale Raines blocked and returned a punt 19 yards for a score and quarterback John Passwaters connected with Ross Horsey for a 43-yard touchdown pass for the Raiders' other points.

"John Passwaters did a nice job directing the offensive attack, as well as handling all of the kicking duties," said Woodbridge head coach John Parker.

The 41 points were the most the Raiders have scored since a 49-0 season-opening victory over Parkside (Md.) in 2000.

"It was a great effort," said Parker. "We're young and inexperienced, but we gained momentum as the game progressed and our hitting was intense."

Defensively, the Raiders were led by Ryan Murray's 5 tackles for losses. Short, Walker, Rains and Kevin Hardy recorded quarterback sacks, and Rusty Emory picked off a pass.

The Raiders travel to rival Seaford for a nonconference game on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
