Smyrna 28, Indian River 19
The Indians lost a chance to finish with a .500 record as they fell to 1-5 in the Henlopen South and 4-6 overall. Billy Hall led the Indians with 61 yards rushing including a pair of 7-yard touchdown runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the the 225-yard rushing performance of sophomore Smyrna running sensation Mike Pennewell. Buster Belote scored on a 2-yard run in the third period to pull IR within 21-19, but Pennewell put the game away in the fourth period with a 5-yard TD burst.
Lake Forest 35, Indian River 13
The Indians saw their two-game winning streak snapped with the loss that dropped them to 1-4 in the Henlopen South and 4-5 overall. IR surrendered 21 points in the fourth quarter after trailing just 14-7 enterting the period. The Indians led 7-0 at halftime on a 1-yard run by Buster Belote but gave up 35 straight points in the second half before scoring again on a 43-yard pass from quarterback P.J. Martin to Tarez Spence.
Indian River 13, Polytech 7
The Indians won for the second straight week in a game they dedicated for former head coach George Bethard, who left the team due to a brain tumor before the start of this season. Bethard was in the stands as the Indians rose to 4-4 overall with the win over the winless Panthers from the Henlopen North. Buster Belote scored on a 6-yard run to put IR ahead 7-0 in the second quarter and on a 32-yard pass from P.J. Martin to Brock Dean in the third period. The Indians sealed the win in the final minute as Belote stripped the ball from Polytech's Tony Benson on a long pass and Chris Rockwood recovered for the Indians at the IR 8. Martin completed 9 of 13 passes for 106 yards with Tarez Spence catching 6 of those completions for 67 yards.
Indian River 15, Delmar 12
The Indians got their first Henlopen South win of the season with the upset of the four-time defending division champions. Quarterback P.J. Martin's 1-yard run with 3:24 left gave the Indians the decisive touchdown as they rose to 1-3 in the South and 3-4 overall. The Indians snapped a three-game losing streak. Martin also connected with Tarez Spence on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Spence caught 8 passes for 85 yards. Buster Belote ran in the two-point conversion following Martin's TD dive.
Milford 34, Indian River 6
The Indians fell to 0-3 in the Henlopen South and 2-4 overall. Their lone score came on a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback P.J. Martin to Brock Dean in the third period. Indian River has been outscored 86-6 in its first three Southern Division contests.
Laurel 31, Indian River 0
The Indians were no match for Laurel as they were shut out for the second week in a row in the Henlopen South. Billy Hall led IR with 85 yards rushing on 10 carries but the Indians completed only 3 of 16 passes for 25 yards. Indian River finished with just 145 yards for the game as it fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the division.
Woodbridge 21, Indian River 0
The Indians became the fourth straight shutout victim of Woodbridge as they fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Henlopen South with their second shutout loss of the year. Indian River managed only 56 yards in the first half while Woodbridge scored all 21 of its points.
Indian River 47, Washington (Md.) 6
The Indians overpowered the winless Jaguars from Maryland with a 27-point second quarter. Running back Paul Parsons scored on a 21-yard pass from quarterback Joey Land and on a 2-yard run and Buster Belote scored on runs of 1 and 23 yards. Brock Dean caught a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback P.J. Martin and Martin scored himself on a 3-yard run. Akeem Westcott accounted for the Indians' other touchdown on a 44-yard run.
Indian River 14, Sussex Tech 12 (OT)
The Indians got their first win of the season on quarterback Joey Land's two-point conversion run in overtime. Torrez Spence tied the game in overtime on a 10-yard pass from quarterback P.J. Martin. Land ran for a 6-yard touchdown in the third period.
