Caesar Rodney 4, Delmar 1 Delmar, the state's third-ranked team, lost the Henlopen Conference matchup to the state's fifth-ranked team. Katie Ditmer scored the Wildcats' only run on a passed ball. The Wildcats are now 9-2 overall. Delmar 2, Indian River 1 (12 innings) Delmar remained unbeaten after outlasting Indian River in a battle between two of the state's top-ranked teams that wasn't settled until an international tiebreaker was used after 12 innings. In improving to 5-0, the Wildcats, ranked third in the state, overcame a 1-0 deficit in the 10th inning with runs in the 10th in the 12th innings. Brittany Elliott scored the game-winner on a hit by Erin Budd in the 12th. After the Indians, ranked fifth, went ahead 1-0 in the 10th inning, Tracey Lloyd scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jen Hastings to send the game to the 11th inning. After the 9th inning, the two teams started each inning with a runner on second base. Freshman pitcher Ashley Dryden struck out 12, walked one and scattered 5 hits for the win to beat senior Indian phenom Cara Deldeo, who struck out 15 and allowed only 4 Wildcat hits. Delmar 12, Dover 0 Erin Budd no-hit the Senators in the five-inning game. Budd struck out 7 and walked just one. Budd also helped herself at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. She was aided by Crystal Niblett's double and triple and a pair of singles by Ashley Baker. Brittany Elliott and Tracey Lloyd singled for the Wildcats. Delmar 5, Seaford 0 The Wildcats successfully opened their new home field with the Henlopen Conference win. Delmar struck first in the third inning when Danielle Twilley singled and scored on an error to spark that rally. The Wildcats then put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning. Jen Hastings led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on an infield single by Erin Budd. Both runners then scored on an error following a Katie Ditmer bunt. Kristin Nichols delivered another RBI-bunt and the Wildcats scored on another Seaford error to close out the scoring. Budd finished the game with two hits to back the three-hit pitching of freshman Ashley Dryden, who struck out 10 while walking only 2. Delmar 5, Milford 4 (10 innings) Erin Budd scored the winning run on a passed ball in a 10th-inning tiebreaker in the Wildcats' opener. Under tie-breaker rules where each team starts the inning with a runner on second base, Budd scored all the way from second on the passed ball. Ashley Dryden recorded the win as she struck out 9 and allowed 5 hits with only one walk. Ashley Baker collected two hits for Delmar.
