In beating Rhode Island, ranked fifth in the country, the Roadrunners accomplished an unprecedented feat in the school's history with three consecutive home runs by Jay Balback, Nate Husser and David Engle in the fifth inning. The barrage gave DelTech a comfortable 12-2 lead after five innings.

Winning pitcher Brian Elder, named the tournament's most valuable player and most valuable pitcher, made the lead stand up as he struck out 10 in a complete game performance. Elder is now 8-1.

The Roadrunners scored four runs in the second inning as Keith Brock cleared the bases with a triple. Derek Haley, who went 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, drove in the other run in the inning. Haley was named the tournament's outstanding offensive player.

The two teams scored two runs apiece until the fifth inning, when the Roadrunners broke open the 6-2 contest with the back-to-back-to-back homers.

DelTech also secured the tournament's most valuable defensive player award as catcher David Engle took that honor.

The Roadrunners advanced to the final round with a pair of victories on Saturday, May 12. DelTech beat Mercyhurst (Pa.) 9-6 in its first game and advanced to the finals with a 6-5 win over Rhode Island in its second game.
