Delmar 3, Sussex Central 1
The Golden Knights suffered a devastating blow to their Henlopen Conference Northern Division title hopes with the upset loss. In falling to 9-3 in the conference and 11-6 overall, the Knights fell 1 1/2 games behind division-leading Caesar Rodney entering the regular season's final week. Catcher Blake Hershelman went 2-for-3 for Central.
Sussex Central 5, Indian River 3
Blake Hershelman's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Golden Knights past rival Indian River in Henlopen Conference play. The victory extended SC's win streak to six games while snapping IR's win streak at eight. The Knights are now 9-2 in the conference and 11-5 overall. They remained one game behind Caesar Rodney in the Northern Division standings. Hershelman's home run also scored Matt Megee, who started the seventh with a walk. Hershelman went 3-for-3. Central trailed 2-0 until the fifth inning, when winning pitcher Jonathan Ricketts scored on a throwing error and a fielder's choice scored the second run. The Knights then went ahead 3-2 in the sixth on a triple by Ricketts, but the Indians tied the game to set up Hershelman's heroics. Ricketts relieved starter Brandon McCabe in the fourth inning and got the Knights out of a bases-loaded jam in the inning with just one run. He finished with four strikeouts and one hit in 2 2/3 innings.
Sussex Central 5, Sussex Tech 4
The Golden Knights got a two-run single from J.J. Ricketts in the fourth inning to subdue their arch-rivals and rise to 7-2 in the Henlopen Conference and 9-5 overall. Ricketts' single keyed a four-run inning for Sussex Central. Trey Bell add two hits and two RBI while Andre Roach contributed two more hits. Brandon McCabe earned the win on the mound.
Cape Henlopen 7, Sussex Central 6 (8 innings)
The Golden Knights lost the Henlopen Conference game when Cape's Andy Chunn hit a bases-loaded single. Catcher Blake Hershelman doubled to lead Sussex Central, which was outhit 13-5.
Sussex Central 3, Dover 2
The Golden Knights claimed the Henlopen Conference nail-biter when catcher Blake Hershelman drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sussex Central trailed 1-0 but went ahead on a two-run double by Tyler Williams in the third inning. After Dover tied the game in the fifth, the Knights needed the bases-loaded walk to secure the win.
Seaford 9, Sussex Central 1
The Golden Knights suffered their first loss of the season in a key Henlopen Conference battle. Limited to just three hits, the Knights trailed 3-0 before Seaford broke loose for six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Brandon McCabe belted a double for Sussex Central.
Sussex Central 9, Polytech 4
The Golden Knights opened their 2001 season with a Henlopen Conference win behind senior catcher Blake Hershelman's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt McGee rapped a double and Brandon McCabe posted the victory on the mound with a complete game three-hitter. Hershelman went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
