LEWES -- Willowridge High School of Houston, Texas, sucessfully defended its main draw championship in the 11th annual Slam Dunk to the Beach national holiday boys' basketball tournament Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000.

The Eagles, ranked second in the nation by USA Today, slammed St. Patrick of New Jersey 61-43 in the title game of the Slam Dunk bracket to become only the second team in the tournament's history to win back-to-back titles.

Ironically, St. Patrick was the other team to claim back-to-back crowns, doing so in 1996 and 1997.

Senior Willowridge guard Kenny Taylor, named the tournament's MVP, scored 16 points. Andre Watson added 13 more.

Terry Hill's 20 points paced St. Patrick.

Willowridge has now won 43 straight games.

In other championship games, Coatesville defeated St. Edward 70-57 for the National Power title behind John Allen's 30 points, Germantown Academy edged Sanford 57-53 for the Tip-Off Classic title, and Pleasure Ridge beat Abraham Lincoln 103-81 in the Mayor's Cup title game.
