Smyrna 40, Cape Henlopen 17 The Vikings lost the conference match to the state-tournament bound Eagles. Polytech 35, Cape Henlopen 34 The Vikings lost the Henlopen North dual meet in heart-breaking fashion on a pin in the heavyweight match. Cape had taken a 34-29 lead entering that match and had what appeared to be a comfortable 34-20 lead before losing the final three matches on two pins and a decision. Milford 57, Cape Henlopen 12 Cape Henlopen managed just three wins against the state's 7th-ranked team. Joey Longo won by pin at 215 and Kyle Hopkins and Kyle Travis won by decision at 125 and 152, respectively. Cape Henlopen 51, Woodbridge 23 The Vikings won the last four weight classes by forfeit to pull away. Billy Lake at 112 and Kyle Travis at 160 recorded pins for Cape. Indian River 40, Cape Henlopen 36 Cape Henlopen fell to 2-3-1 when it lost the heavyweight match by pin. The Vikings took a 36-34 lead into the final match on the strength of pins by Brandon Welling (125), Kyle Travis (160) and Patrick Kuhn (171). The Vikings took their late lead on forfeits at 189 and 215. Billy Lake and Kyle Hopkins won by decision at 119 and 125, respectively. Laurel 42, Cape Henlopen 26 The Vikings jumped out to a 20-18 lead but two pins and an injury default in the 152, 160 and 171 matches proved to be their undoing. The Vikings got pins from Kyle Travis at 152 and Joey Longo at 215. Brandon Welling and Kyle Hopkins registered major decisions at 119 and 125, respectively, while Billy Lake (112) and Jenna Pavlik (145) won by decisions. Cape Henlopen 62, Delmar 15 The Vikings recorded nine pins to easily win the Henlopen Conference dual meet. Cape's pins were by Brandon Welling at 119, Kyle Hopkins at 125, Jonathan Downing at 130, Will Albanese at 135, Jenna Pavlik at 145, Kyle Travis at 152, Andy Bradley at 171, Joey Longo at 215, and Jody Brittingham at heavyweight. Cape Henlopen 38, Dover 33 Cape Henlopen used wins by Ryan Martin at 189 and John Longo at 215 to take the Henlopen North match. The Vikings' Brandon Welling recorded a pin at 119 pounds in 35 seconds. Caesar Rodney 68, Cape Henlopen 6 The Vikings fell victim to one of the state's top teams in the Henlopen North dual meet. Jonathan Downing was Cape's only winner with a pin at 130. Cape's Kyle Hopkins lost 11-9 in overtime to CR's Steve Scaffedi at 125. Sussex Central 66, Cape Henlopen 7 The Vikings were no match for the perennial Henlopen Conference Northern Division power in their season-opener. Cape won only two matches, with Kyle Hopkins winning by major decision at 125. Sussex Central won the meet's last 10 matches including the last nine by pin. |
