Laurel 39, Seaford 30 The Bulldogs stormed back from a 30-18 deficit to beat their rivals. Zak Slatcher at 215 and Phillip Hastings at heavyweight capped the comeback with pins. Adam Conaway and Ray McGinnis also recorded pins at 112 and 125, respectively. Lake Forest 38, Smyrna 25 The Bulldogs' Henlopen South title hopes were dashed as Lake Forest clinched the crown. Laurel fell to 8-5 in the conference and 9-6 overall. Smyrna 36, Laurel 33 The Bulldogs suffered a major blow in their quest for a Henlopen South title. Smyrna clinched the match on a decision at 215 that made it 36-28. Phillip Hastings accounted for the final score when he registered a technical fall in the heavyweight match. Laurel had taken a 12-5 lead before Smyrna ripped off five straight wins for a 27-12 advantage. Ray McGinnis (125), Matt Tyndall (160) and Adam Ralph (171) all won by technical fall. Jamek Matthews won by decision at 119 and Allen Moore won by a decision at 189. Caesar Rodney 68, Laurel 5 The Bulldogs fell to 7-3 in the conference and 8-4 overall with the loss to the unbeaten Riders, the state's top-ranked team. Laurel's only win was a technical fall by Ray McInnis at 125. Sussex Central 63, Laurel 9 The Bulldogs fell to 7-2 in the conference and 8-3 overall with the loss to the unbeaten Knights. Laurel's Adam Conaway (112), Ray McGinnis (125) and Adam Ralph (171) all won by decision. Laurel 33, Sussex Tech 26 The Bulldogs gave coach Dave Rogers a victory over his old team by winning three of the meet's final five matches. Heavyweight Phillip Hastings sealed the victory win a pin in his match. Laurel rose to 7-1 in the conference and 8-2 overall with the win. Laurel 49, Milford 24 The Bulldogs racked up five pins in the Henlopen Conference victory. Bobby Otwell (103), David Horsey (125), Adam Ralph (171), Allen Moore (189) and Phillip Hastings (Hwt.) recorded the Bulldogs' pins. Laurel 60, Delmar 12 The Bulldogs posted nine pins to rise to 4-2 overall. Jeimek Matthews recorded one of the pins at 119 in 55 seconds and Alfred Baynard recorded another at 152 in 1:13. Milford 46, Laurel 22 The Bulldogs dropped the first eight matches in falling to 3-2 overall. The Bulldogs got their first victory with a major decision by Alfred Baynard at 152. The Bulldogs got pins from Matt Tyndall at 160 and Phillip Hastings at heavyweight. Laurel 60, Woodbridge 18 Laurel continued its quest for a Henlopen South title with a victory made easier by six forfeit wins. The Bulldogs started with a pin by Bobby Otwell at 103. Laurel also got pins from Ray McGinnis at 125, David Horsey at 130, and Ben Ralph at 140. The Bulldogs won the meet's last five matches by forfeit. Laurel 45, Indian River 27 The Bulldogs picked up a key Henlopen Conference Southern Division victory for new coach Dave Rogers. Laurel won the last four matches by forfeit or pin, with 189-pounder Alan Moore and heavyweight Phillip Hastings winning by pin. The late rush enabled the Bulldogs to overcome a 27-21 deficit after the 160-pound bout. Jamek Matthews and Jeff Downes also won by pin at 119 and 140, respectively. Bobby Otwell won by decision at 103. Rogers was the conference's coach of the year last year at Sussex Tech. Laurel 54, St. Andrew's 24 The Bulldogs whipped visiting St. Andrew's in a non-conference dual meet. Recording pins for the Bulldogs were Bobby Otwell at 103, Derek Dykes at 125, Ben Ralph at 135, Adam Guall at 152, Matt Tyndall at 160, Adam Ralph at 171, and Phillip Hastings at heavyweight. Ray McGinnis (130), Jeff Downes (135) and Alan Moore (189) all posted major decisions. Parkside (Md.) 36, Laurel 32 The Bulldogs dropped a non-conference match in their season-opener. The Bulldogs got pins from Ray McGinnis at 130, Adam Ralph at 171 and Alan Moore at 189. Ben Ralph (140), Matt Tyndall (160) and Zach Slatcher (215) all won by decision. |
