Thursday, March 1, 2001 Wilmington Christian 48, Milford 39 The Bucs, playing without standout junior forward Jonathan Webb, couldn't get going offensively in a turnover-plagued first round state tournament upset loss. Milford, the No. 9 seed, finished its season at 14-9. Wilmington Christian, the No. 24 seed, rose to 14-10 and advanced to a second round game against Lake Forest at Polytech on Saturday, March 3, at 8 p.m. The Bucs scored only 18 points in the first half but still trailed by only two points. They then grabbed a 31-27 lead midway through the third period but Wilmington Christian answered with a 10-0 run for a 37-31 lead entering the fourth quarter. David Brinkley and Vincent Leggins led the Bucs with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Leggins hit 2 three-pointers. Steve Landry led Wilmington Christian with a game-high 25 points including a pair of three-pointers in the fourth period to seal the outcome. Landry hit 6 of his 9 three-point attempts. Milford 60, Dover 43 The Bucs jumped on Dover in the first and third quarters for the Henlopen North triumph. Jonathan Webb scored 21 points for Milford, which led 15-4 after the first quarter and put the game away with a 25-10 advantage in the third period. Milford finished its Henlopen season at 12-7. The Bucs are 13-8 overall and awaiting word on a berth in the 24-team state tournament. Milford 70, Caesar Rodney 63 The Bucs overcame an 8-point halftime deficit to solidify their status for a state tournament berth. Jonathan Webb led Milford, which rose to 11-7 in the Henlopen North and 12-8 overall, with 20 points. David Brinkley and Dorian Riddick added 17 and 12 points, respectively, for Milford. Milford 63, Sussex Tech 39 The Bucs scored a surprisingly easy Henlopen North victory over a Tech team it had lost to by 16 points back in December. Jonathan Webb led the Bucs with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Vincent Leggins and David Brinkley contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively. Milford rose to 10-6 in the division and 11-7 overall. The Bucs led 29-21 at halftime, then blew the game open in the second half. Cape Henlopen 54, Milford 47 The Bucs stayed close but Cape pulled away down the stretch in the Henlopen North contest. Vincent Leggins led Milford with 11 points. The Bucs fell to 9-6 in the division and 10-7 overall. Milford 80, Smyrna 40 Four players scored in double figures as the Bucs doubled up on Smyrna. David Brinkley led the balanced attack with 14 points. Jonathan Webb and Tomaz Davis scored 13 points apiece and Vincent Leggins added 10 more including a pair of three-pointers. In rising to 9-6 overall, the Bucs started pulling away from the Eagles with a 20-10 advantage in the second period and then blew them out with a 41-18 advantage in the second half. Milford 69, Woodbridge 56 The Bucs, behind David Brinkley's 24 points, rolled to the conference win. Vincent Leggins and Jonathan Webb were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Indian River 56, Milford 55 (OT) The Bucs saw their five-game winning streak snapped as they lost a six-point lead entering the fourth quarter and saw IR hi all six of its free throws in overtime. Jonathan Webb scored 18 points to lead the Bucs, who slipped to 5-4 in the conference and 6-4 overall. Vincent Leggins added 13 more points. Milford 53, Polytech 38 The Bucs recorded their fifth straight victory behind Jonathan Webb's game-high 20 points. In rising to 5-3 in the Henlopen North and 6-3 overall, Milford jumped out to a 32-13 halftime lead. Dorian Riddick and David Brinkley contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. Milford 69, Caravel 64 David Brinkley topped his season-high for the second straight game with 24 points and the Bucs collected their fourth straight win in the non-conference contest. Dorian Riddick added 16 points for the Bucs, who overcame a 7-point halftime deficit with an 18-8 advantage in the third quarter. Daron Johnson chipped in with 11 points for Milford, which rose to 5-3 overall. Milford 68, Laurel 58 The Bucs continued hot with their third straight double-digit victory. Now 4-3 in the Henlopen North and overall, Milford got a season-high 18 points from David Brinkley. Jonathan Webb and Dorian Riddick contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively. Milford 56, Dover 37 The Bucs won their second straight with a surprisingly easy victory over a Dover team that has been challenging for the top spot in the Henlopen North. David Brinkley, Jonathan Webb and Charles Wise scored 11 points apiece for the Bucs, who evened their record at 3-3 in the North and overall. Wise sank a pair of three-pointers. Dorian Riddick contributed 10 points and Vincent Leggins scored 9 points including a three-pointer. The Bucs led 30-17 at halftime. Milford 72, Caesar Rodney 58 The Bucs snapped a three-game losing skid with the Henlopen North victory. Milford is 2-3 in the North and overall. Jonathan Webb and David Brinkley led the Bucs with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Tomaz Davis contributed 15 more points. Milford led 29-22 at halftime. Sussex Central 56, Milford 48 The Bucs finished a trio of games against the Henlopen North's top three teams with their third straight loss to fall to 1-3 in the North and overall. Jonathan Webb led Milford with 16 points. Dorian Riddick was also in double figures with 10 points. The Bucs trailed by 10 points entering the final quarter. Sussex Tech 69, Milford 53 The Bucs, burned by 42 points from Sussex Tech guard Tynell Tingle, fell behind 17-2 at the end of the first quarter in falling to 1-2 overall and in the Henlopen North. Jonathan Webb scored 15 points and David Brinkley 14 for Milford. Cape Henlopen 66, Milford 51 The Bucs led 17-13 after the first quarter but were outscored 43-20 over the next two periods in the Henlopen North contest. Dorian Riddick led Milford with 13 points. Jonathan Webb added 11 more including a pair of three-pointers and Vincent Leggins contributed 10. Milford 65, Polytech 37 The Bucs jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the first quarter and were never challenged in their season-opener. Jonathan Webb sparked Milford with a game-high 15 points including a three-pointer. Tomaz Davis and David Brinkley added 14 and 11 points, respectively. The Bucs finished the Panthers off with a 23-9 advantage in the third period. |
