Sussex Central 86, Cape Henlopen 73
The Vikings fell behind early in the loss to the Henlopen Conference Northern Division leaders.
Cape trailed Sussex Central 44-31 at halftime.
The Vikings put five players in double figures, led by point guard Matt Jones' 18 points.
Also in double figures were Scott Shockley and Kevin Brittingham with 12 points apiece and Deondre Scott and Derek Savage with 11 points each.
Sussex Tech 76, Cape Henlopen 56
The Vikings were blown out in the third quarter in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division defeat. Cape trailed 35-26 at halftime but was outscored 22-13 in the third period by Sussex Tech. Jordan Thomas' 12 points led the Vikings. Matt Jones added 11 more and Dondre Scott chipped in with 9 points.
Dover 60, Cape Henlopen 43
Cape lost for the second straight time after being outscored 20-9 in the second quarter of the Henlopen Conference Northern Division contest.
Matt Jones led the Vikings with 14 points, while Deondre Scott, Kevin Brittingham and Derek Savage added 8 points apiece. Jones hit a pair of three-pointers.
Dover 60, Cape Henlopen 43
The Vikings' six-game win streak came to an end as they fell behind in the first half and couldn't catch up. Cape trailed Dover by 11 points at halftime. Matt Jones paced the Vikings with 17 points.
Cape Henlopen 74, Delmar 55
The Vikings' mid-season surge continued with the win over Delmar -- their sixth straight victory and their seventh in their last eight games.
Jordan Thomas led the way for Cape with 16 points. Kevin Brittingham contributed 12 more.
Cape Henlopen 69, Laurel 67
The Vikings continued their hot streak with a big win over the Henlopen Conference Southern Division leaders.
Winners of five straight and six of their last seven games, the Vikings outscored Laurel by 3 points in the third quarter to break up a tie game at halftime and held on from there.
Ray Jackson canned two foul shots with seven seconds left to seal the win.
Point guard Matt Jones sparked the triumph with 23 points, while Deondre Scott added 18 more. Scott hit two of the Vikings' four three-pointers.
Kevin Brittingham contributed 12 points to the victory.
Cape Henlopen 72, Indian River 67 (OT)
The Vikings collected their fourth straigh win and their fifth in their last six games.
Cape overcame a 42-36 deficit after three periods by outscoring Indian River 24-18 in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings then took control in the overtime with Scott Shockley scoring 7 of their 12 points.
Shockley finished with 15 points for Cape, which was led by point guard Matt Jones' 25 points. Derek Savage added 11 more points.
Cape Henlopen 76, Woodbridge 34
The Vikings won their third straight game and their fourth in their last five outings.
Cape broke the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Woodbridge 24-4.
Point guard Matt Jones led the Vikings with 20 points, including 3 three-pointers. Also in double figures were Jordan Thomas with 13 points and Derek Savage with 11.
Cape Henlopen 69, Milford 60
The Vikings won for the third time in four games since the holiday break.
Cape took a 50-32 lead into the fourth quarter over Milford as it rose to 4-5 in the Henlopen Conference and 4-7 overall.
The Vikings were sparked by Derek Savage's 16 points and Scott Shockley's 15 points. Point guard Matt Jones contributed 11 points, while Deondre Scott chipped in with 9 points.
Cape Henlopen 66, Lake Forest 58
The Vikings broke the game open in the third quarter as they recorded their second victory in the last three games.
Cape led by just 22-21 at halftime but outscored Lake 23-15 in the third period to pull away.
Point guard Matt Jones paced the Vikings with 15 points, while Scott Shockley and Derek Savage added 11 points apiece. Kevin Brittingham and Jordan Thomas chipped in with 8 points each.
Seaford 61, Cape Henlopen 58
The Vikings stormed back from a 13-point deficit after three quarters but couldn't come up with the Henlopen Conference Northern Division win.
Cape trailed Seaford 46-33 after three quarters before outscoring the Jays 25-15 in the fourth quarter.
Four Vikings scored in double figures, with Scott Shockley leading the way with 16 points. Also in double figures were Kevin Brittingham with 12 points, Matt Jones with 11 points, and Deondre Scott with 10.
Cape Henlopen 57, Polytech 51
The Vikings broke a six-game losing streak with the Henlopen Conference Northern Division win over winless Polytech.
Matt Jones led the Vikings with 20 points. He was aided by Kevin Brittingham and Derek Savage with 8 points apiece.
Cape took a 28-19 halftime lead and cruised from there. The Vikings are now 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the Henlopen North.
St. Augustine (NJ) 72, Cape Henlopen 40
The Vikings fell for the fifth consecutive game as they dropped the Tommy Jacobs Memorial game in the Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball tournament.
Cape trailed 21-16 after the first quarter and was then outscored 37-12 over the next two periods as it fell to 1-6 overall.
The Vikings were outrebounded 38-21 and shot just 2-for-21 from three-point range. No Cape player reached double figures. Kevin Brittingham led the Vikings with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Laurel 67, Cape Henlopen 63
The Vikings suffered their fourth straight loss with the defeat in the Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball tournament.
Cape grabbed a surprising 27-21 second quarter lead but Laurel went on a 16-0 run to take command at 38-27.
Cape didn't give up, however, and battled Laurel all the way to the end. The Bulldogs didn't put the game away for good until they sank a free throw with 12 seconds to go.
The Vikings were led by Deondre Scott's 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. He drained 3 three-pointers. Matt Jones contributed 15 more points.
Smyrna 58, Cape Henlopen 52
The Vikings lost their third straight game to fall to 1-4 in the conference and overall. It is the slowest start for the Cape boys' basketball program in recent memory.
Cape was outscored by 6 points in each of the second and fourth quarters by the unbeaten Eagles.
The Vikings were paced by point guard Matt Jones' 15 points, including 3 three-pointers.
Sussex Tech 81, Cape Henlopen 61
The Vikings lost their second straight Henlopen Conference Northern Division game.
Facing another of the Henlopen North's pre-season favorites, Cape fell behind Sussex Tech 20-5 at the end of the first quarter and never recovered.
Deondre Scott scored 20 points to lead the Vikings, who fell to 1-3 in the conference and overall.
Sussex Central 67, Cape Henlopen 59
The Vikings lost a tough one in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division defeat.
Cape trailed unbeaten Sussex Central by just one point entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 24-17 in the period.,p>
Derek Savage led the Vikings with 14 points, while Deandre Scott contributed 11. Savage sank a three-pointer.
Point guard Matt Jones added 10 more points for the Vikings.
Cape Henlopen 72, Caesar Rodney 70
The Vikings evened their record at 1-1 as they gave new head coach Troy Hazzard his first victory.
Scott Shockley led the Henlopen Conference Northern Division triumph with 23 points, while junior point guard Matt Jones contributed 21.
Dover 82, Cape Henlopen 47
The Vikings fell behind early and never recovered in a season-opening Henlopen Conference Northern Division defeat.
The game marked the debut of new head coach Troy Hazzard.
Cape trailed 25-14 after the first quarter and 44-25 at halftime. Dover continued to add to its lead in the second half by outscoring Cape 38-22 over the final two quarters.
Junior point guard Matt Jones paced the Vikings with 16 points. Junior forward Deondre Scott added 10 more.
