Cape Henlopen 79, Woodbridge 0 The Vikings used 9 forfeits to hand Woodbridge its fifth loss by shutout this year. In matches wrestled, Jay Tartal (130), Kyle Hopkins (140) and Bobby Hopkins (160) registered pins, while Matt King posted a major decision at 145 and Ray Tartal won by decision at 152. Caesar Rodney 56, Cape Henlopen 6 The Vikings had no better luck against powerhouse Caesar Rodney than any other Henlopen Conference team this season. Travis Dorman and Bobby Hopkins scored Cape's points with decisions at 125 and 152, respectively. Laurel 29, Cape Henlopen 27 The Vikings suffered a heart-breaking loss when they surrendered a technical fall in the night's final match at 103 pounds. Cape bounced back from a 24-18 deficit to go ahead 27-24 when heavyweight Jerry Callaway scored a 3-1 decision over Laurel's Zach Slatcher, but a technical fall by Laurel's Marc Saylor at 103 left the Vikings reeling. The two teams battled back and forth all night. After Laurel struck quickly with technical falls in the first three matches for a 10-3 lead, Cape battled back on a decision at 130 by Jay Tartal, a major decision by Kyle Hopkins at 130, and a decision by Ray Tartal at 145 for a 17-13 advantage. Laurel then took a 24-17 lead with three straight victories, but Cape rebounded with a pin by Bradley at 215 and Callaway's decision at heavyweight for a 27-24 advantage. Cape Henlopen 60, Indian River 11 The Vikings took advantage of seven forfeits to easily claim the Henlopen Conference victory. Cape also recorded a pin and a major decision to whip Indian River. Bobby Hopkins registered the pin for Cape, while Ray Tartal posted the major decision at 145. Also winning for Cape by decision were Matt Reuther at 112 and Brian Bundick at 119. Milford 35, Cape Henlopen 23 The Vikings fell behind early and couldn't catch up against the Henlopen Conference Southern Division powers. Milford won the first five matches to take a comfortable lead. Ryan Martin registered a pin at 189 for Cape, which fell to 3-2 overall. Cape Henlopen 36, Lake Forest 26 The Vikings roared back from a 26-18 deficit for the victory. Jerry Callaway capped the rally with a 31-second pin in the heavyweight match to clinch the win. The Vikings also got a pin from Pat Kuhn at 189. Kuhn registered his pin in 59 seconds. Kyle Hopkins and Ray Tartal also had big wins, with Hopkins scoring a technical fall at 140 and Tartal posting a major decision at 152. Jay Tartal (130), Matt King (145) and Bobby Hopkins (160) all registered decisions. Seaford 37, Cape Henlopen 31 The Vikings suffered a heart-breaking Henlopen Conference Northern Division dual meet loss when they lost the night's final match. Seaford took the dual meet when it scored a pin in the last match of the night at 160. Cape had taken a 25-12 lead before Seaford rallied with 5 wins in the next 6 matches, including the pin at 160. Recording pins for Cape were Josh Weldon at 103 and Ray Tartal at 145. Cape Henlopen 40, Sussex Tech 27 The Vikings turned the tables on Sussex Tech by storming back from a large deficit to capture the Henlopen Conference Northern Division dual meet. Last year, Tech scored a 36-31 win over Cape with a pin in the heavyweight match after Cape had come back from a 21-3 deficit. This year, the Vikings stormed from behind again, as they overcame a 27-7 deficit. This time, though, Cape made the comeback pay as it won the final seven matches of the night to secure the win. After a pin at heavyweight put Tech ahead 27-7, the Vikings started their comeback with a technical fall by Josh Weldon at 103, a pin by Matt Reuther at 112 and a major decision by Bryant Bundick at 119. That brought the Vikings within 27-22, and a pin by Travis Dorman at 125 put Cape over the top for good. Jay Tartal followed with a decision at 130, Riggin added a major decision at 135, and Kyle Hopkins finished off the rally with a pin at 140. |
