Laurel 60, Indian River 10
The Bulldogs moved closer to the Henlopen Conference Southern Division title with the triump over Indian River.
Laurel and IR were actually tied early on as the Bulldogs traded a pin by Ben Ralph at 160 with decisions by the Indians at 171 and 189.
Eston Ennis then started the rout with a pin at 215. That was followed by three consecutive forfeits and a pin by Bobby Otwell at 119 for a 36-6 advantage.
Will Saylor then knocked off IR's Pat Devine, 3-1, in a marquee matchup for a 39-6 lead. After a major decision by IR at 130, the Bulldogs got two more forfeits, a decision by Jeff Downes at 145, and a pin by Jason Ward at 152.
Laurel 60, Seaford 9
The Bulldogs used four pins, two forfeits and three major decisions to dispose of Seaford.
Starting with a pin by Marc Saylor at 103, Laurel bolted to a 31-0 lead. Following two forfeits, Will Saylor recorded a major decision at 125, Robert Reed registered a pin at 130, and D.W. Horsey scored a major decision at 135.
Jeff Downes posted a decision at 145, and after a loss at 152, the Bulldogs finished the dual meet off with five straight wins.
Ben Ralph started the last run with a pin at 160, Ricky Ralph followed with a major decision at 171, Kiante Walker won by decision at 189, Eston Ennis claimed a victory by injury default at 215, and Zach Slatcher recorded a pin in the heavyweight match.
Laurel 41, Salesianum 19
The Bulldogs scored another big victory with the win over the perennial upstate power.
Laurel took control of the nonconference dual meet midway through as it registered four straight pins and a technical fall to go up 38-10.
Jason Ward started the streak with a pin at 152 and was followed by pins by Ben Ralph at 160, Scott Givens at 171 and Kiante Walker at 189 and a technical fall by Eston Ennis at 215.
Zach Slatcher then won by decision at heavyweight to give the Bulldogs a 41-10 lead.
Laurel had gone ahead 9-3 early on a pin by Will Saylor at 125 and a decision by D.W. Horsey at 135. Salesianum rebounded with two straight wins for a 10-9 lead, but Ward then started the rout with his pin at 152.,p>
Salesianum had lost only one dual meet -- to William Penn -- before facing Laurel.
Laurel 70, Delmar 3
The Bulldogs roared to their season high in points on the strength of nine pins.
With Delmar managing only one victory all night, Laurel got pins from D.W. Horsey at 135, Jameik Matthews at 140, Jason Ward at 152, Scott Givens at 171, Kiante Walker at 189, Eston Ennis at 215, Zach Slatcher at heavyweight, Jared Allen at 112 and Bobby Otwell at 119.
The pin explosion gave the Bulldogs 54 of their points.
Also winning for Laurel were Ben Ralph by a technical fall at 160, Marc Saylor and Will Saylor by major decisions at 103 and 125, respectively, and Scott Hearn by a decision at 130.
The win kept Laurel in first place in the Henlopen Conference Southern Division.
Laurel 29, Cape Henlopen 27
The Bulldogs collected their second straight win in exciting fashion when Marc Saylor won by technical fall in the final match of the night at 103.
Laurel had taken a 24-18 lead with three matches remaining following a decision by Kiante Walker at 189.
Cape Henlopen, however, jumped ahead with a pin at 215 and a decision at heavyweight to go ahead 27-24.
The two teams battled back and forth all night. Laurel got off to a 5-0 lead on Jared Allen's technical fall at 112. Will Saylor then put Laurel ahead 10-3 with another tech fall at 125.
After Cape tied the score 10-10, the Bulldogs got a decision by Jameik Matthews at 140 for a 13-10 lead. Cape regained the lead at 17-13 before Laurel put together three straight wins -- a pin by Ben Ralph at 160, a decision by Ricky Ralph at 171 and Walker's decision at 189 -- to go up 24-17.
Laurel 53, Sussex Tech 13
The Bulldogs rebounded from their loss to Caesar Rodney with a resounding victory.
Laurel won seven straight matches from 103 to 140 after falling behind Sussex Tech 10-7 following the first four matches.
Marc Saylor started the string with a pin at 103 and was immediately followed by a pin by Jared Allen at 112.
Ahead 19-10 at that point, the Bulldogs put the match out of reach with a decision by Bobby Otwell at 119, a forfeit at 125, back-to-back pins by Scott Hearn at 130 and D.W. Horsey at 135, and a technical fall by Jameik Matthews at 140.
After a Tech victory at 145, Laurel closed out the rout with a pin by Jason Ward at 152 and a decision by Ben Ralph at 160.
Ricky Ralph won by a decision at 171 for the Bulldogs, while Eston Ennis won by a major decision at 215.
Caesar Rodney 45, Laurel 15
The Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to the seven-time defending Henlopen Conference dual meet champions.
The Bulldogs started the match strong with a decision by Marc Saylor at 103, a decision on an escape with 10 seconds left by Bobby Otwell at 119, and a pin by Will Saylor at 125 for a 12-9 lead.
CR, however, won the next five matches to take a commanding 30-12 lead. Ben Ralph earned Laurel's final win with a 6-5 decision over CR's Steve Crew.
Laurel 52, Dover 12
The Bulldogs continued unbeaten with an easy victory forged by five pins. Marc Saylor (103), Bobby Otwell (119), Jameik Matthews (140), Ben Ralph (160) and Zach Slatcher (Hwt.) recorded the pins. Laurel won 11 of the 14 matches to rise to 4-0 overall.

Laurel 44, Lake Forest 20
The Bulldogs' rout setup an early season showdown with defending Henlopen Conference Southern Division champion Smyrna on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The victory was punctuated by former state champion Will Saylor's pin of defending state champion Tyler Lapinsky in just 1:37 in the 125-pound bout. Lapinsky won the 112-pound state title last season, while Saylor won the 103-pound state title as a freshman in 2001.
Saylor's pin gave Laurel a 17-7 lead after four matches, but Lake Forest came back with victories in three of the next five matches to pull within 24-19 heading into the final four matches.
Laurel put the dual meet away then, with a pin by Ben Ralph at 160, a decision by Ricky Ralph at 171, and forfeits at 189 and 215.
Heavyweight Eston Ennis and 103-pounder Marc Saylor got Laurel off to a 10-0 lead with a pin and major decision, respectively. Laurel also got a major decision from Jameik Matthews at 140 and a decision from D.W. Horsey at 135.
The Bulldogs are now 2-0 in the South and overall.
Laurel 64, Woodbridge 9
The Bulldogs used three pins, two technical falls and five forfeits to roll to victory in their Henlopen Conference Southern Division dual meet opener.
Woodbridge pulled within 17-9 after the 152-pound match, but Laurel won every match from that point on by pin or forfeit.
Recording pins for Laurel were Ricky Ralph at 171, Marc Saylor at 103 and Jared Allen at 112. Will Saylor (125) and Jameik Matthews (145) posted technical falls, while D.W. Horsey won by major decision at 140.
Marc Saylor made quick work of his opponent with a pin in just 15 seconds.
Ben Ralph earned the championship of the 160-pound weight class in the annual Milford Invitational with a hard-fought win over Scott Cahall of Smyrna. Ralph beat Cahall 3-2 in Saturday night's finals.
