Tips Off Tonight |
Four Sussex County teams tip off the 2000 Delaware state boys' basketball tournament on Thursday, March 2, 2000. Cape Henlopen, Sussex Central, Laurel and Delmar all play first round games this evening, while Sussex Tech, the Henlopen Conference champion and No. 3 seed, gets a bye into the second round on Saturday, March 4. Tonight, Cape, the 9th seed, faces 24th seed Concord at 6:30 p.m. at Caesar Rodney. Cape is 16-6 and led by guard Darrell Davis (17.8 points per game) and forward Julius Hazzard (13.0 ppg). Concord is 8-14. Sussex Central and Laurel face each other in the first round in a 7 p.m. game at Seaford. Central, the 15th seed at 14-7, is led by forward James Cannon's 20.7 scoring average while Laurel, the 18th seed at 13-9, is led by point guard Titus Mims' 19.8 points per game and center Hykeem Williams' 14.7 average. Delmar, at 10-11 the 23rd seed, faces Mt. Pleasant, the 10th seed at 16-6, in a 7 p.m. game at Dover. Guard Ian Hudson leads Delmar with 16.8 points an outing. Tech, with a record of 19-3, awaits the winner of tonight's Caesar Rodney/St. Mark's first round contest. Tech will face one of those teams in the second round on Saturday at Polytech at 8 p.m. Other games tonight:
