Friday, March 3, 2000 Padua 48, Indian River 33 The Indians had trouble scoring against the defending state champions and finished their season with a 15-9 record. IR scored only 7 points in the first period and just 2 points in the second period to fall behind 32-9 by halftime. Brittany Croll and Natalie Parsons led the Indians with 13 points apiece. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000 Caesar Rodney 46, Indian River 33 The Indians, vying for their first Henlopen Conference championship since 1984, couldn't contend with the inside game of the taller Riders, the champions of the Northern Division, in the conference championship game at Sussex Tech. The champions of the Southern Division, the Indians were led by Natalie Parsons' 14 points. The Indians fell out of contention when they went scoreless for more than 10 minutes during the first and second quarters. Parsons went to the bench with a leg injury during that span. The Riders outscored IR 15-0 during that stretch to take a commanding 28-10 lead from which the Indians couldn't recover. CR's Erika Woods dominated inside, as well, with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Brittany Croll led the Indians with 14 rebounds. Indian River is now 15-8 heading into the state tournament. The Indians get a first round bye in the state tourney and face either Padua or Newark in the second round on Friday, March 3, at a site to be determined. Indian River 32, Smyrna 15 The Indians clinched the Henlopen South crown with a suffocating defense that allowed Smyrna only 2 points in the first quarter. In finishing its conference season at 14-5, the Indians qualified for the Henlopen Conference championship game against either Caesar Rodney or Seaford from the Henlopen North. The Indians didn't score many points themselves as Natalie Parsons was their leading scorer with just 8 points but they held Smyrna to just 4 points in the second and fourth periods and 5 points in the third quarter. Indian River 48, Delmar 34 The Indians scored the game's final 14 points in the last three minutes to set up a showdown with Smyrna for the Henlopen South title on Feb. 22. The game was tied 34-34 with three minutes left but behind Sierra Garrison, the Indians pulled away to rise to 12-5 in the South and 13-7 overall and clinch the division and a berth in the Henlopen Conference championship game on Monday, Feb. 28. Garrison led the Indians with 20 points. Indian River 36, Laurel 34 The Indians overcame a seven-point third quarter deficit to put some space between themselves and second-place Laurel at the top of the Henlopen South standings. IR rose to 11-5 in the division and 12-7 overall while dropping Laurel to 11-8 in the division. Natalie Parsons' 20 points sparked the Indians. She also had 5 steals and a block. Brittany Kroll and Sierra Garrison scored 8 points each. . Indian River 43, Dover 29 The Indians moved into a tie for the Henlopen South lead with Smyrna with the victory. IR and Smyrna are both 10-5 in the division. The Indians are 11-7 overall. Natalie Parsons scored 11 points in the first quarter and finished with 15. Sierra Garrison added 13 more points for Indian River. Indian River 58, Woodbridge 32 The Indians used 21 points by Brittany Kroll and 13 by Valine Garrison to record the Henlopen South rout. IR rose to 9-5 in the South and 10-7 overall. The Indians led 23-13 at halftime and blew the game open with a 22-6 advantage in the third period. Milford 46, Indian River 42 The Indians fell into a tie for first place in the Henlopen South with the loss. At 8-4 in the division, IR is tied with Smyrna for first place. The Indians are 9-6 overall. Indian River came back from a 9-point deficit to take a 42-41 lead with two minutes left but was outscored 5-0 over those final two minutes. Sierra Garrison led IR with 14 points. Indian River 36, Lake Forest 22 The Indians outscored Lake Forest 16-5 in the fourth quarter to overcome a lackluster offensive performance in the first three periods. Sierra Garrison scored 12 points to spark Indian River. Indian River 49, Cape Henlopen 43 The Indians maintained their one-game lead in the Henlopen South as they rose to 6-2 in the division and 6-3 overall. Brittany Croll's 21 points paced IR, which jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. The Indians got a big boost from Natalie Parsons' 15 points, as well. Smyrna 51, Indian River 34 The Indians suffered their first conference loss but at 5-1 in the division and 5-2 overall still lead the Henlopen South by a game over second-place Laurel and Milford. Brittany Croll scored 11 points for the Indians, who faded away in the second and third quarters when they were outscored 26-11 and managed only 3 points in the third quarter. Indian River 35, Delmar 26 The Indians controlled the game throughout behind Brittany Croll and Serena Garrision to remain unbeaten and in first place in the Henlopen South at 5-0. Croll scored 17 points and Garrison 8 points for the 5-1 Indians. Indian River 36, Laurel 31 The Indians took over sole possession of first place in the Henlopen South as they rose to 4-0 and handed Laurel its first defeat in an early season showdown. Serena Garrison led IR with 13 points including a pair of three-pointers. The Indians trailed 14-12 at halftime after scoring only four first quarter points. Natalie Parsons aided Garrison with 10 points. Stephen Decatur (Md.) 28, Indian River 27 The Indians suffered their first loss in a non-conference defeat at Stephen Decatur in Berlin, Md., to fall to 3-1 overall. Dayna Elliott scored 10 points for IR, which led 4-1 after the first quarter in the unusually low scoring contest. Brittany Croll managed only 2 points after averaging 18.0 points a game going in. Indian River 42, Woodbridge 26 The Indians rose to 3-0 to stay tied for first place in the Henlopen South with Laurel by pulling away from a tight game with a 14-5 advantage in the fourth quarter. Brittany Croll led the way with a game-high 19 points. Dayna Elliott and Sierra Garrison scored 9 and 8 points, respectively. Indian River 45, Milford 35 The Indians continued to flourish under new coach Pat Kelley with the Henlopen South triumph. Brittany Croll's game-high 20 points led the way for the 2-0 Indians, who went 3-19 last season. Sierra and Valine Garrison chipped in with 9 and 8 points, respectively. Indian River 46, Lake Forest 19 The Indians got off to a fast start under new coach Pat Kelly. Brittany Croll scored 15 points to lead the Indians, who took a 32-5 halftime lead by holding the Spartans scoreless in the second period. Dayna Elliott added 10 points.
