Milford 41, Laurel 18
The Bucs captured their second consecutive Henlopen Conference Southern Division championship in their final season in the South before moving to the North next year and senior Jon Jones became the school's all-time winningest wrestler.
Before a capacity crowd in their home gym, the Bucs rose to 9-2 in the South and overall by jumping out to a 25-0 lead on pins by Josh Chilcote (103), Mitch Harding (112) and Dan Madanat (119), a major decision by Jones (130), and a decision by Richard Fischer (125).
After Laurel pulled within 25-12, Ryan Billings sealed the championship for Milford with a 29-second pin at 160. Doc Kemmerlin followed with a major decision at 171 to give Milford a 35-12 lead. The Bucs are now the only team besides Smyrna to take two straight Southern Division crowns.
Jones' decision was his 107th career victory, eclipsing the record of 106 wins set by his father, David "Skip" Jones, in the 1960s.
Milford 51, Indian River 13
The Bucs fell behind 7-0 but stormed back thanks to four forfeits and three pins. Brandon Able (145), Bobby Doran (152), J.R. Duffy (189) and Mike Passwaters (Hwt.) all had pins for the Bucs, while Cliff Mumford (135) and Doc Kemmerlin (171) won by decision.
Milford 53, Polytech 12
The Bucs used four pins to whip the Panthers. Keith Brown and Dan Madanat recorded their pins in 34 and 37 seconds, respectively, while Jon Jones and Cliff Mumford nailed down the other falls.
Milford 41, Cape Henlopen 18
Richard Fisher and Jon Jones recorded pins for Milford in the easy win.
Milford 67, Woodbridge 6
The Bucs made quick work of Woodbridge, which forfeited three of the first four matches. Milford also registered seven pins and two technical falls. Jon Jones (130), Cliff Mumford (135), Bobby Doran (152), Ryan Billings (160), Doc Kemmerlin (171), J.R. Duffy (189) and Mike Passwaters (Hwt.) recorded the pins for Milford while Josh Chilcote (103) and Brandon Able (145) scored the technical falls.
Milford 52, Seaford 10
Seven pins and two technical falls made for an easy victory for the Bucs. Milford got pins from Mitch Harding (112), Cliff Mumford (135), Bobby Doran (152), Ryan Billings (160), Doc Kemmerlin (171), J.R. Duffy (189) and Kacey Fry (Hwt.). Jon Jones (130) and Justin Zook (140) won their matches by technical fall while Dan Madanat (119) won by decision.
Milford 37, Dover 19
The Bucs ended their two-match skid with a convincing win that raised them to 2-2 in the Henlopen South and overall. The Bucs blew the match open with seven straight victories from 135-189. Dan Madanat (119) and Kacey Fry (189) both recorded pins for Milford while Richard Fisher registered a major decision at 125. John Jones lost a chance for his 100th career win when he was decisioned at 130.
Caesar Rodney 41, Milford 15
Milford couldn't stop powerhouse Caesar Rodney as it fell to 1-2 in the Henlopen South and 1-2 overall. The Bucs got pins from Brendon Abel at 145 and Kacey Fry at heavyweight and John Jones won by decision for his 99th career victory.
Sussex Central 44, Milford 7
The Buccaneers, ranked 5th in the state, managed only two wins in the big Henlopen match against 7th-ranked Sussex Central. Cliff Mumford registered a major decision and Mitch Harding a decision for the Bucs, who slipped to 2-1 in the Henlopen South and overall.
Milford 50, Smyrna 19
The Buccaneers, ranked 6th in the state, beat Smyrna for the first time since 1990 in opening the defense of its Henlopen Conference Southern Division championship. The Bucs used pins by Josh Chilcote (103), Mitch Harding (112), Dan Madanat (119), Cliff Mumford (135), Bob Duran (160), and Kacey Fry (189) in the rout.
