Lake Forest 77, Woodbridge 72
The Blue Raiders gave the Henlopen South leaders a battle but couldn't prevent Lake Forest from clinching its second straight Southern Division title. Lake Forest will face Sussex Tech in the Henlopen Conference championship game for the second year in a row at Cape Henlopen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000. The Raiders, who fell to 8-10 in the South and 9-11 overall, were led by Jamil Young's 19 points and Demetrius Lopez' 17 points. Jeremy Maddox contributed 13 points. The Raiders hit 9 three-point shots including 4 by Avery and 3 by Maddox. Woodbridge led 39-36 at halftime and was tied with the Spartans with less than 4 minutes to go.
Woodbridge 74, Smyrna 62
Woodbridge rode the hot three-point shooting of Doug Avery to the Henlopen South victory. Avery scored 24 points and nailed 5 of his 7 three-point attempts to help the Blue Raiders rise to 8-9 in the division and 9-10 overall. Demetrius Lopez had a huge game with 18 points and 18 rebounds and Jamil Young chipped in with 14 points including 3 three-pointers.
Sussex Central 65, Woodbridge 48
The Blue Raiders were never in the game as they trailed 14-2 after the first period. Demetrius Lopez and Jeremy Maddox led Woodbridge with 19 and 12 points, respectively.
Delmar 64, Woodbridge 60
The Blue Raiders got 28 points from Demetrius Lopez in a losing cause. Jeremy Maddox added 16 points and hit 2 three-pointers. Woodbridge was outscored 21-11 in the third quarter to fall to 7-8 in the Henlopen South and 8-9 overall.
Woodbridge 83, Laurel 76 (2 OT)
Demetrius Lopez tied his career high with 35 points to help the Blue Raiders survive in double overtime. Jeremy Maddox added 20 more points for Woodbridge, which rose to 7-7 in the Henlopen South and 8-8 overall. The Raiders overcame a 15-6 deficit after the first period with a 46-25 advantage in the second and third periods but were outscored 20-8 in the fourth quarter to force the first overtime. Both teams scored 11 points in the first overtime before Woodbridge was able to pull the game out in the second overtime.
Woodbridge 72, Indian River 64
Doug Avery's 22 points sparked the Blue Raiders in the Henlopen South contest. Jamil Young added 16 points and C.J. Pitts and Demetrius Lopez contributed 10 points apiece as Woodbridge took a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and added slightly to the lead over the remaining three quarters.
Sussex Tech 79, Woodbridge 57
The Blue Raiders led the Henlopen North leaders at halftime but were outscored 48-22 in the second half. Jamil Young led three Raiders in double figures with 14 points. C.J. Pitts and Demetrius Lopez added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Woodbridge is 5-7 in the Henlopen South and 6-8 overall.
Caesar Rodney 74, Woodbridge 48
The Blue Raiders dropped to 5-6 in the Henlopen South and 6-7 overall. Woodbridge was outscored 26-14 in the final quarter. Demetrius Lopez' 17 points led the Raiders. Jamil Young scored 10 more.
Woodbridge 71, Milford 66
Jeremy Maddox bombed away from outside with 4 three-pointers to lead the Henlopen South triumph. Maddox finished with 23 points including 12 in the final period. He hit a three-pointer in the game's final minute to seal the outcome. Demetrius Lopez scored 16 points and Jamil Young scored 12 more for Woodbridge.
Polytech 51, Woodbridge 48
The Blue Raiders were held to 20 points lower than their season's average of 68.8 points a game as they fell to 4-5 in the Henlopen South and 5-6 overall. Woodbridge was led by Jeremy Maddox's 17 points and Demetrius Lopez' 15 points. Maddox hit three 3-pointers. The game was tied 40-40 entering the final quarter but the Panthers scored 3 unanswered points in the last 40 seconds to pull out the victory.
Woodbridge 74, Seaford 59
Woodbridge used 27 points from Demetrius Lopez and 20 more from Jeremy Maddox to subdue the Blue Jays and rise to 4-4 in the Henlopen South and 5-5 overall. Doug Avery contributed 10 points as the Blue Raiders rode a 27-15 edge inthe second period to their second consecutive victory. Maddox nailed 5 three-pointers and Avery 2.
Woodbridge 71, Dover 63
Demetrius Lopez exploded for 11 of his 30 points in the final quarter as Woodbridge rose to 4-5 in the Henlopen South and 3-4 overall. Jeremy Maddox poured in 20 more points for the winners, who outscored Dover 24-13 in the second quarter to take control. Maddox connected on 2 three-pointers.
Lake Forest 73, Woodbridge 61
The Blue Raiders fell to 2-4 in the Henlopen South and 3-5 overall despite 32 points and 16 rebounds from Demetrius Lopez. Woodbridge led 34-28 at halftime but was outscored 23-10 in the third period to lose control of the game. Jamil Young and C.J. Pitts added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Smyrna 69, Woodbridge 54
Demetrius Lopez and Jeremy Maddox scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, but they couldn't prevent the Blue Raiders from suffering their third consecutive division loss. Woodbridge fell behind 21-6 after the first quarter, 40-18 at halftime, and never recovered in falling to 2-3 in the Henlopen South.
Delmar 78, Woodbridge 73
The Blue Raiders succumbed to a frantic Delmar fourth quarter rally to fall to 2-2 in the Henlopen South and overall. Woodbridge led 54-47 after three periods but was outscored 31-19 in the fourth quarter. Demetrius Lopez' 23 points led the Raiders. Jeremy Maddox scored 19 points and Doug Avery added 14 more.
Laurel 70, Woodbridge 61
The Blue Raiders suffered their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1 in the Henlopen South and overall. Demetrius Lopez led the Raiders with 23 points. Woodbridge led 13-8 after the first period but was outscored 23-11 in the second quarter. Freshman Jamil Young added 10 points for the Raiders. Junior guard Doug Avery scored 10 points including a pair of three-pointers.
Woodbridge 88, Indian River 76
Demetrius Lopez scored his 1,000th career point and helped Woodbridge remain unbeaten in the Henlopen South. Lopez poured in 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as the Blue Raiders rose to 2-0 in the South and overall and into a first place tie in the division with Laurel. Jeremy Maddox recorded a triple double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. C.J. Pitts and Doug Avery chipped in with 13 points apiece.
Woodbridge 69, Milford 58
The Blue Raiders withstood a furious Milford comeback to post the Henlopen Conference Southern Division win. Jeremy Maddox led the Raiders with 25 points and Demetrius Lopez added 10. The Raiders used a 25-9 advantage in the second quarter to take control of the game and the lead eventually reached 24 points before Milford was able to cut the lead down to 60-57 with 3:20 remaining. The Raiders outscored the Bucs 9-1 the rest of the way, though, to secure the victory.
