A Look at Delmar Railroads

Delmar Caboose

Railroad buffs won't want to miss Delmar, a town that traces its routes to the railroad.

Delmar was a railroad town in the 1800s and still pays tribute to its past at several sites.

Visitors can see a restored caboose (pictured above) on Railroad Avenue in downtown Delmar and visit the Railroad Museum at the Delmar Public Library. Beside the caboose is a 19th century Highball Signal used to indicate the condition of the track with the raising and lowering of a large white ball.

The town also is host to the annual Delmarva Model Railroad Club's train exhibition. During the holidays, the Delmar-based club showcases one of the largest displays of model railroad layouts in the region.
