Millsboro Business Sites
Although founded in 1860 and incorporated in 1893, Millsboro's history dates back much further to the time when the Nanticoke Indians walked the land. About 500 Nanticokes still live in the area today.
The town was named for the grist and saw mills that prospered here after the damming of the headwaters of Indian River in 1792. Cupola Park, one of the best places to view the river, takes its name from the iron stack atop a brick furnace. A foundry and forge were located at the park site until after the Civil War.
Millsboro is nearly surrounded by Millsboro Pond, Ingram Pond and Betts Pond. Today, it is a thriving community with a downtown business district and businesses on U.S. 113, including two shopping centers. Millsboro is also home to Long Neck, one of Delmarva's fastest-growing communities on Indian River Bay and home to many retirees relocating here from the cities.
